Excerpt from "Move A Pawn"
Thriller & Romance book: A mother and her young son are stranded in a severe North Dakota blizzard. Blinded by white-out conditions, she takes a wrong turn and becomes hopelessly lost on an isolated stretch of country road. Her street tires have a tough time maintaining any traction, only managing to slide the car deeper into the heavy snow. While the gas gauge slowly drops to empty, she prays for help to arrive before they eventually freeze to death.
Please, Lord, don't let it end this way.
Excerpt from "Who Is Victoria Island?"
Young Adult Fantasy book: I heard them coming, right on my heels. I sprinted along the side of the gorge as if I were in the marathon of my life. Skidding to an abrupt stop, I found myself teetering on the edge of a steep cliff. Beneath my boots, loose rocks tumbled several hundred feet to the valley below. I turned around and estimated my chances. There were too many of them to fight off. They would shred me to pieces. . . Or I could jump. I made my decision and hoped that Griffon was right. I took three steps towards the threat, then whirled around and hurled myself off the cliff.
Excerpt from "Grandma Vanderberg's Stories"
True History book: I was born in 1905. The next clear memories I can recall are of life in North Dakota. My Papa and Mama and another young couple from Wisconsin had built a house in a small town by the name of Douglas in Ward County. It was just a square box-like structure with a partition through the middle, so each family had two rooms. It was so small and crowded that when we made the beds at night, we had to hang the chairs on nails on the walls. This was just temporary quarters as my Papa had filed on 160 acres of land, but he couldn't get a house built on the homestead until spring. . . Looking back now, I still call them the happiest days of my life.
Excerpt from "What Is Victoria Island? --The Prophecy"
Young Adult Fantasy book: “I didn’t ask for this honor. I didn’t want to be a leader,” I whispered to myself. “I’m not ready.” But those were not my options. The world had changed, and with it, so had I. I had been content to follow, blend into the background and be an obedient daughter. But life had other plans for me. In an instant my life had drastically changed, and I woke to see things in a different light. The naïve little wimpy girl I used to be was gone. The mantle of leadership was thrust upon me, even as I had tried to avoid it.
